While you’re supposed to rest and relax your body during pregnancy, many women instead suffer from unrelenting insomnia. The insomnia can be a chronic condition or can happen only intermittently but, either way, it causes a great deal of anxiety in the pregnant woman.

There are also female physical complications such as aches and pains, cramps, frequent urination, leg cramps and stress. It is so difficult just to get comfortable enough to get to sleep. There is a lot going on in the life of a pregnant woman, including things like fixing the nursery, going to baby showers, anticipating the baby, selecting the baby’s name and worries about delivering a healthy baby.

Sleep Medications During Pregnancy

One cannot take much medication for sleep during pregnancy but you can do things like yoga, meditation and other relaxation techniques. Taking a comfortable warm bath or shower before pregnancy goes a long way toward helping you get some sleep. You can also ease your mind with the use of music therapy or white noise therapy.

Some women find that if they make a daily to do list before bedtime, they don’t ruminate so much before going to sleep. In addition, there are a lot of excellent sleep products out there that can help a woman feel comfortable when sleeping, such as a body pillow that supports the uterine weight while a woman sleeps.

Frequent Urination and Sleep Problems

If you have a problem with urinating frequently, it is recommended by doctors that you limit your liquid intake just before retiring in order to have less in your bladder to urinate. If you area person that has a serious sensitivity to outside sounds and smells, try wearing earplugs or use white noise to block out other sounds. Have a nice scented candle or other scented item to block out unwanted smells. Have a fan running in your room so that you can feel a cool breeze and hear the white noise sound as much as possible.

Try a small snack and a warm tea or warm milk before going to bed as long as you don’t consume caffeine. Stick with a high carb snack that will stay with you at night so that you don’t awaken during the night, still hungry and wanting more. Don’t forget to relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Pregnancy is a normal and natural thing that billions of women have successfully accomplished.

Many times, the insomnia shows up halfway through the second trimester and in the third trimester. This is when the body is physically having a hard time getting to sleep. The baby is pushing on the bladder too much at this point in the pregnancy so that the woman has to get up often to go to the bathroom during the night. Many pregnant woman claim that the go to the bathroom at night and have to go again as soon as they return to their bed again. It can be very frustrating for some women.

With these problems and the constant flow of worries and thoughts going through a woman’s mind during pregnancy, it’s a wonder that women are able to sleep at all during this special time.

Is sleeping at night one of your particular problems and do you think that a natural sleep supplement is just the right choice for you? Are you interested in learning the sleep methods necessary to give you a nice natural sleep pattern?

Trying Natural Sleep Products

You can try any number of natural products that help you get to sleep in a faster and natural way without having morning tiredness and fatigue you can get from over the counter medications or prescription medications. Let’s take a look at natural ways to get to sleep without the side effects of medication.

The first thing to remember is that you should never try to get to sleep over a half hour at a time. If you cannot sleep over a half hour, get up and do something for about ten to fifteen minutes. You can choose to read something, watch television or do a puzzle—anything that gets you out of bed.

Then try to get back to sleep again, making sure your bed, bedding and pillows are completely comfortable. Choose something that tires you and that really gets you out of the bed for a bit.

You can consider taking herbal supplements for sleep

There are a number of them to choose from, from chamomile to valerian root to passion flowers. Try them in capsule, tincture or pill form and many come in teas as well. They are all completely natural, are not addictive or habit-forming and you won’t experience much in the way of side effects from these forms of sleep aids.

Finally, if over the counter sleep aids or natural sleep methods or pills don’t work, see your doctor who will prescribe a prescription sleep aid for you. Lunesta and Ambien are commonly prescribed sleep aids that don’t have much addictive power but that can have a great deal of side effects, such as hallucinations, sleep walking, sleep talking, memory loss and morning sluggishness. Use these

Sleep apnea is actually very common. You see it first as snoring and then as periods of time that a person doesn’t breathe during their sleep and gasping to get their breath at times. It can be mild, moderate or severe and worsens over time.

About 12-20 million Americans suffer from this condition at any point in time and it is as common as diabetes. Men have it more often than women and it is also more likely to occur in those who snore and in those who are overweight. It is a dangerous disease and about 38 thousand people die from the condition every year due to cardiovascular side effects of the disorder.

Definition of Sleep Apnea

This is a sleeping disorder that manifests itself as pauses or gaps in breathing when one sleeps. The gaps in breathing can last from 10-60 seconds at a time, but can be longer if the condition is very severe. The gaps are called “apnea events” that occur as often as 300 to 400 times in any given night. It is possible to wake up during a sleep apnea event, while others do not awaken but catch their breath during sleep.

Types of Sleep Apnea

There are three known types of sleep apnea: the first is obstructive, the second is central and the third is mixed sleep apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common type of apnea and involves 9 of 10 apnea sufferers. This disorder happens when the airway collapses during sleep, making it difficult for air to pass through the airway. Obstruction can be in the back of the throat or in the trachea or wind pipe itself. When it involves the back of the throat, it is due to fatty tissue which gets in the way of the airway.

Central sleep apnea happens when the brain has poor signals to allow a person to breathe properly. The breathing muscles do not get the signal from the brain to operate and you stop breathing. This is a rare form of sleep apnea. The mixed type sleep apnea is more like obstructive sleep apnea with elements of brain dysfunction not allowing a person to breathe well at night.

Having Sleep Apnea

You know that you might have sleep apnea if you are snoring deeply at night, if you wake up gasping for breath at night or if you have a lot of daytime sleepiness. If you have any of these symptoms, contact your doctor about possibly getting a polysomnograph sleep study. Such a test can easily diagnose sleep apnea.

Is Sleep Apnea Life Threatening?

If you do not have this sleep problem treated, you can subsequently get high blood pressure, heart disease or stroke-like symptoms. You stand a higher chance of having work accidents or car accidents if you have sleep apnea that is not treated.

Can sleep apnea be improved?

In minor cases, you can make lifestyle changes to correct the problem. Such changes include quitting smoking, losing weight, sleeping on your side, limiting alcohol before bedtime and not using sleeping pills or sedatives before going to sleep. In severe cases, you may need a device called CPAP that opens the airway during sleep.

It can be really frustrating to feel like the only one on Earth who isn’t getting enough sleep. Some people can get by with drinking a couple of cups of coffee before sleep and can do just fine while others can’t even catch a few winks after suffering from two days of sleep deprivation and disorders. How do those good sleepers do it?

There are about five excellent tips to give you the sleep you need. As long as you don’t have a medical condition causing your insomnia, these are some tips and habits you can use to see I they help you get some actual sleep.

Tip #1: Keep to the same schedule each night

Go to bed at about the same time and get up at about the same time every morning. This allows your body to get into a solid habit so you won’t be struggling to get to bed every night at different times of the night.

Those who aren’t sufferers from insomnia naturally go to bed at the same time every night and awaken at the same time every morning. Their bodies are programmed to allow their bodies to become relaxed at specific times of the day. Naps should also be scheduled at the same time every day.

Tip #2: Don’t drink caffeine before bed and preferably skip it after 3 o’clock in the afternoon

Other stimulants are video games, the TV and the internet that, when used just before bedtime will keep you too wired to sleep. Avoid alcohol, chocolate and tobacco before sleeping and remember than many sodas contain caffeine. Use these products only when you’re able to stay awake for a few hours.

Tip #3: Exercise helps sleep especially if you don’t do it right before going to bedtime

You need about 20-30 minutes of exercise every day and it doesn’t matter what exercise you use. Avoid exercising within an hour of sleeping. Choose instead to exercise in the morning and evening. Sedentary folks sleep more poorly than those who do a bit of exercise every day.

Exercise is a stress-reliever and it increases the body’s endorphin levels. Moderate exercise like walking or swimming is enough. You don’t have to kill yourself doing these exercises.

Tip #4: Try not to nap. It’s sort of like eating between lunch and dinner

You ruin your chances of feeling tired enough to get some sleep if you have been sleeping half the day already and it throws off your sleeping schedule.

Naps, for some people, are a way to get extra energy for the day but if you are suffering from sleep problems, you will only create a confused state for your mind and you might wreck your chances of getting that sleep at night. You’ll truly get your days and nights mixed up and will end up sleeping less throughout a 24 hour period of time.

Tip #5: Don’t eat too much before bedtime

This means that your body will have to digest the food as you sleep and you will suffer from indigestion and poor sleep patterns. Going to bed on a full stomach can be uncomfortable and can severely impact the quality of your sleep.

Not all sleep solutions work so you need to try them out to see what works best for you. Keep a diary of your sleep patterns along with those things that might be impacting your sleep. See a doctor if you can’t naturally get back to sleep.

For those who have suffered from several weeks of insomnia, you may be tempted to get some sleeping pills over the counter or see your doctor to get some prescription sleeping pills. The problem is that these pills will only work for a little bit of time and you will go on having insomnia, needing more and more medication to get to sleep. You will develop addiction to some of the pills and you won’t be able to get off of them. Let’s take a look at some reasons why you should avoid sleeping pills as options for you for sleep deprivation or insomnia.

Certain health conditions do not mix with sleeping pills

OTC or over the counter sleeping pills are simply antihistamines that have fatigue as one of their side effects. This may be okay for some but those who have certain conditions shouldn’t be taking these kinds of pills. These include high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, glaucoma, heart disease, diabetes and a few others.

Sleeping pills don’t mix very well with other medications

The OTC medications don’t usually mix well with other medications, especially allergy medications, muscle relaxants and heart medications. Your pharmacist may catch some of these drug-drug interactions but if you’re buying them over the counter, you might not think to ask your pharmacist about them. If you’re on other medications, ask the pharmacist or your doctor whether or not the medications mix well or don’t mix well with what you’re already taking.

You may feel tired during the day with sleeping pills

Not all sleeping pills wear off in the morning and if you are taking them late at night, you may find yourself feeling very groggy during the day. Such grogginess can affect your ability to drive, making you hazardous on the road because your reflexes aren’t what they should be.

Sleeping pills don’t get at the root cause of the problem

OTC sleep medicines and even prescription medications may help you sleep at night but they don’t get to the root of the problem and you will soon find yourself addicted to sleep medications or continually taking OTC medications without really addressing the root issue. You can only get rid of insomnia if you actually find out what is causing it and get to the bottom of the sleep problem. It could be stress, anxiety or poor sleep habits that can be fixed so that you can take care of the problem long before it requires strong sleep medication.

Besides the above-listed problems, you need to know that over the counter sleeping pills just don’t give you a good night’s sleep and can just lead to addiction and dependence on pills for sleeping. You’ll need to take more and more of the medication in order to fall asleep. The best answer is to get at the root of the sleeping issue and to correct the underlying issue so you don’t need to rely on sleep medications all the time.

Sleep apnea is a unique sleep problem that involves an interruption of a person’s sleep due to a lack of breathing and blockage of the airway due to snoring. There are a couple of types of sleep apnea such as central sleep apnea and obstructive sleep apnea.

The are Various Forms of Sleep Apnea

There also mixed type sleep apneas and complex sleep apneas that together result in a cessation of breathing for several seconds of time during the sleep period. Let’s take a look at the types of sleep apnea and the different therapies recommended.

As mentioned, there are several types of sleep apnea: central, obstructive, complex and mixed. Each has a different set of circumstances surrounding it and each interrupts sleep so that you don’t get a good night’s sleep. Your sleep can be interrupted so much that you are tired during the day, even though it appears you are sleeping more than normal.

Obstructive Apnea Is The Most Common Type Of Sleep Apnea Known

It occurs as a result of being overweight or having a laxity of the throat muscles during sleep so that the throat closes off during sleep and you quit breathing. This wakes you up a little bit and you gasp your airways open. It is often found when a person has a secondary chest infection and is not generally dangerous but if it is chronic, then it must be treated with CPAP or continuous positive airway pressure that opens up the airway at all times. This type of sleep apnea is complicated by getting congestive heart failure.

The Form Of Sleep Apnea Known As Central Sleep Apnea

This form of sleep apnea actually originates within the brain the brain loses the signal to breathe, resulting in a jerking brain pattern of breathing. The brain can actually shut down its breathing practices so that you can become starved of oxygen and actually fail to breathe at all, resulting in death. This is an uncommon complication of the disease, however.

Some people develop both central and obstructive sleep apnea at the same time in what’s called a mixed pattern of sleep apnea. Complex sleep apnea is a newer form of sleep apnea in which the obstructive form of sleep apnea is taken care of but the central portion of sleep apnea persists after treatment.

The Basis Behind All Forms Of Sleep Apnea

The basis behind all forms of sleep apnea is that you need to get oxygen through the airways at all times. This involves using CPAP and really only works well for obstructive forms of sleep apnea. Medications can only work well for central sleep apnea. There are also medical procedures used for obstructive sleep apnea that involve surgery.

Believe it or not, changing your sleep position can work for both nixed and central apneas along with surgery to help open up the airways of the lungs. This keeps the symptoms away and keeps the symptoms from coming back. Depending on the type of sleep apnea you have, a treatment is available to manage the problem and give you some relief.

Sleep issues related to anxiety can be hard to handle. Our thoughts just keep going, interfering with our daily life and with sleep. We also begin to worry about not sleeping and we find ourselves watching the clock, trying to fall asleep while getting more anxious.

This can be a self-perpetuating cycle and we just want to get away from it. When it is anxiety causing sleep difficulty, it can be hard to treat and many people tend to go to their doctor to get a sleep medication in order to reduce anxiety and allow ourselves to sleep.

Prescription or OTC Sleep Aids

The truth is that prescription or over the counter medications for sleep only partially solves the problem and only for a little while. They tend to wear off after a few weeks and many of the medications tend to be addictive, leaving us needing to take more and more of the medication, just to get to sleep. The medication may impact the way our anti-anxiety pills work and this can be disastrous. We need to find some other way to sleep that doesn’t involve the use of medications to control sleep and anxiety.

One Simple Your Should Consider

You can use CDs or tapes to help control the sleeplessness and anxiety. They often employ subliminal messages and soothing music that have no side effects and can be extremely effective in controlling the underlying anxiety and allowing us to sleep. Binaural music therapy has also been found to be effective but it requires you to use headphones while you sleep.

An advanced technique for reducing anxiety and helping sleep is isochoric pulse therapy, which employs quickly changing sound frequencies and relaxing musical tones without needing to use stereo equipment. This seems to help people sleep more restfully.

When you are up half the night trying to get enough sleep and worrying about what would happen if you don’t get enough sleep, then taking sleep aid sounds like a great idea. While OTC and prescription sleep aids make you sleep faster, they can give you annoying side effects that can, in some cases, be dangerous. There are natural sleep aids that do not cause the same problems if you take them.

When considering sleep aids, pay attention to whether or not they cause a hangover effect, especially if you only take them late at night when nothing else works. You might be just as drowsy in the morning as you would have been if you didn’t take anything at all.

Developing a Dependency for Sleep Aids

If you take prescription sleep aids for too long, your body will become dependent upon them and you will need more of them to have the same effect. You can become addicted to these sleep aids and be unable to sleep without taking the medicine. This can lead to a bunch of health problems you didn’t have before taking the sleeping pills. Withdrawal symptoms include, nausea, headaches, tremors and irritability that persist during the day if you haven’t taken enough of the sleep aid.

OTC Sleep Aids May Mix with Other Medications

People don’t recognize that over the counter sleeping pills can interact with blood thinners, antibiotics, or other sleeping medications. It can cause problems, rarely death, when mixed with prescription medications for sleep. You shouldn’t take over the counter sleeping pills with narcotic pain relievers, as this can be a dangerous combination.

Natural Sleep Remedies are Effective and Safe

A much safer route to take when you can’t sleep are natural or herbal sleep remedies. These include melatonin and tryptophan, which are found naturally in a healthy body to help in sleep and relaxation. Such remedies, when taken in the correct dose, are safe and gentle for your body. Some of these sleep aids include:

•	Melatonin: This is made in the pineal gland in response to a darkening sky and is important to our circadian pattern of sleep. It is good to take whenever your natural sleep clock has gotten out of control
•	Valerian: This is a root that helps you relax enough to sleep and is both effective and gentle. It’s commonly used for sleep in Europe as a natural way to block sleep problems.
•	Lemon Balm: This is a safe remedy to help you sleep. It relaxes your mind and calms your body so you fall asleep more easily.
•	Passion Flower: This blocks an overactive central nervous system and allows your body to get a good night’s rest.

Melatonin and the various herbal sleep aids have been used for a long time for both short term and long term insomnia with few side effects when compared to prescription sleeping medication. You can use these treatments in a tea, in a caplet or capsule or in a tablet or liquid tincture absorbed through the mouth or directly through the skin. It all depends on the medication you use. Such products are used for the attainment and maintenance of a healthy night’s sleep with few side effects or problems taking them.

Sleep is vital to everybody yet over 70 percent of the world’s population suffers from sleep disorders. Bad news is that some people do not know they are suffering from it yet. Sleep problem is a medical condition that has the ability to cause accidents and affect one’s health, relationships as well as mental ability. The condition generally makes one feel “disconnected” from the rest of the world.

There Are Various Causes Of Sleep Disorders, Some Grave And Some Just Minor

However, finding the underlying causes and solutions of these disorders can be extremely useful in improving one’s general outlook and health status. Irrespective of the causes of these sleep complications, temporary disturbances and full-blown insomnia have cures. Luckily, there are options of tackling sleep conditions that are cheaper and affordable. This is because the remedies never involve extreme measures and medication.

How to Tackle Sleeping Disorders Through Relaxation

Drink herbal tee as it can help relax the body for sleep. There are different types of herbal tea and some of the common ones include chamomile, kava-kava and Valerian.

Taking a book to bed can help one to relax in time for sleeping. Books with a good pace are recommended.

Quite a number of people take wine before they go to bed and especially red wine. Alcohol should be taken moderately before going to bed so as to sleep soundly.

Listening to soothing music is another relaxing technique to use for inducing sleep. This usually works better with a book and some tea.

A bath, especially if taken before bed time can help you with your sleep disorders as well.

Exercise and a massage can help one relax their bodies for sleep. People do not have to get themselves an entire body massage as they can have one for only the tensed part of the body.

Proven Strategies for Regaining that Elusive Sleep

Among the proven strategies for promoting sound sleep at night is avoiding watching TV, discussing sensitive matters in bed and eating immediately before going to bed. This is because if the bed is associated with other activities, it becomes difficult sleeping peacefully. Noise, light and temperature should be minimized during sleep by use of window blinds, ear plugs, air conditioners or electric blanket. One should also avoid naps and if necessary, they should not last more than 25 minutes.

When getting up at night, tiny night lights are recommended instead of the bright ones. Drinking fluids after eight at night is also not advisable as it increases the number of times on wakes up at night. Stimulants like Nicotine and caffeine should not be consumed when it is almost bed time. Pets should be kept out of bed as they tend to cause allergies and disturbances as one is sleeping. Finally, ensure you sleep in a comfortable bed with the correct bedding.

Many people have sleep disorders, sometimes as severe as insomnia. On the other hand, only five percent of American adults admit to having the problem when, in fact, many more are really having trouble sleeping. Sleep is something we all need to have proper mental, emotional and physical health.

If you are on of those sensitive types like me who tend to worry too much, think too much and as a consequence suffer from headaches, nervousness, depression, and problems in falling asleep at night, then it sure sounds like you got the sleep disorder bug. Well, of course this isn’t a tasty pill to swallow. Most people worry about cancer, heart attacks, strokes and other conditions that threaten their lives, and not many have the awareness that insomnia is also a serious condition that needs to be treated or else the consequences can be dangerous and even deadly.

The inability to get a good night’s sleep is a condition that many people suffer from and many do not consider it to be a medical condition. Sometimes it is a brief occurrence and goes away after some time but when it is goes on for prolonged periods of time, it is a sign of an underlying issue that the sufferer may have.

Let’s Look At The Monster In The Eyes. What Are Really Sleep Disorders ?

It is a condition that has many different causes, both physical and mental, that eventually affects your sleep. Meaning that for one reason or another, you simply do not manage to fall asleep at night as you’re supposed to, and if by some kind of miracle it does happen then after a short while you will wake up again, toss and turn in your bed to try to fall back asleep without success, and so forth for the whole night, often many nights in a roll when there is no restful and sufficient sleep.

Now this is not a natural state. It is normal to miss sleep for a few days if there is something really exciting coming up in your life (on the good case) or an upcoming scary event to be a bit less optimistic, but those sleepless nights should go back to normal after a short while.

If You Suffer From Sleep Disorders You Need To Be Treated As Soon As Possible

To some people, probably including you if you’re still reading the article, it becomes a constant problem to fall asleep at night or to sleep without waking up too often or too early, ranging from weeks up to years of lack of good sleep. Those people suffer from sleep disorders, and need to be treated to avoid developing dangerous malfunctions of the mind and body. This is no joke, if the body do not get enough rest, there becomes a high risk or developing high blood pressure, heart attacks and even strokes, not to talk about all the mental disorders that can grow out of this unbalanced state of mind.

There are many things you can do. First, by knowing what things are the biggest stressors for you, you can start controlling your mind by practicing positive thinking and relaxation exercises. More than 32 million Americans suffer from some kind insomnia disorder

So if you think that you are one of those insomniacs, it is not time to sink in despair, there is hope! Not only that science today provides many treatments for all kinds of diseases and sleep disorders, including most of the usual ones that can cause insomnia, but if you need a loving and understanding shoulder to cry on, you’ve got plenty of them. Did you know that more than 32 million Americans suffer from some kind of sleep disorder ?

What Are Sleep Disorders And What Can You Do To Help Eliminate Them

More and more people spend their time in front of the TV or playing video games (and not only kids as you might think), often late through the night. People work more and more hours of the day, and keep themselves so busy that they don’t even have time to relax, having tons of things to think about when they finally go to bed - work, family chores, the last fight with the spouse, the last war in the schedule and God knows what else. So there is not much more time left for letting the mind rest, and of course that a peaceful sleep will be impossible that way.

After that, turn to professional help if it’s not enough. It is true that not every case of insomnia can be treated because the underlying ailment (mostly serious mental disorders) has no known treatment, but most of them have solutions, medical or psychological, and any doctor could shed some light on your condition.

Enjoy The Day, Enjoy Your Family, Enjoy Nature And The Simple Things

If you start a treatment with medical observation, it can be helpful to add changes in your daily life to help the process. Stop being obsessed with your work, with bills to pay and the latest psycho at loose in the streets. Try to live your life for every minute, the best you can, because who knows what will be tomorrow. Enjoy the day, enjoy your family, enjoy nature and the simple things in life and you will find that fighting insomnia was worth not only for your sleep but for your life in general.
